Dear Nikkei Matsuri Arts & Crafts Vendors and Attendees:

As of January 1, 2012, the City  of San Jose put the 'Bring Your Own Bag Ordinance' into affect.
Please note that this is now a law in San Jose.
San Jose residents and San Jose businesses have been practicing this, since the beginning of the year.

How does this affect the Nikkei Matsuri?

1.  We recommend that you review the following web-site:
http://www.sjrecycles.org/bags/
This features FAQs, and information to businesses.

2.  To summarize-for retail situations (arts & crafts vendors):
- Single-use plastic handled bags are not allowed in San Jose.
- Compliant paper bags can be used, with a minimum charge of $.10/bag.  Compliant bags must contain 40% recycled material.
- We will have posters through the festival site informing people of this.

We realize that this will be a big change for you and encourage you to review the attached link above and be familiar with the City of San Jose bag ordinance.  We are doing our part by noting this on our festival web-site and print material.  If you have any questions, please contact:  Gordon Koo (
gordon@yo-koo.net).  Gordon is a member of the Nikkei Matsuri committee and will field any questions you have regarding the bag ordinance.

We look forward to seeing you at the festival!
